The association takes its name from a historical fact recounted by Admiral B. Estival:
...China, 1937, as the river's mountain waters were cutoff due to Japanese occupation, the officers of Balny (a French gunboat on the Yang zi jiang river) as well as their barrack's Commander Odent, (based in the city of Chongqing in the province of Sichuan) decided in an effort to forget their boredom (the words boredom or " blues " and cockroach are the same in french) to create a fictive order that they finally called " the Cockroach (or boredom/blues) of Wang Kia To " (The authentic chinese name is in fact: Wang jia Tuo.)
To be considered for admission into the order the requirements were as follows: At least 3 months stay as officer in the province of Sichuan preceding the application where during that time the applicant must have distinguished himself by an extraordinary joke or an incredible personal anecdote. These stiff requirements explain why the honor of admission was accorded to only fifteen privilaged applicants. The elected members, once having undergone certain initiation rituals and paid chancellery dues amounting to 7 dollars, received a diploma drafted in chinese and carrying the signature of the Grand Chancellor (the barrack's commander) as well as the official medal of the Order.
L'ordre du cafard de wang jia tuo
